What is your name?
My name is Kelly Crawford, BSN, RN, IBCLC and I am the owner of Long Island Latch.
How many kids do you each have and what are their ages?
I have one daughter who is 12 years old.
What is your favorite thing about the Sayville Patchogue Area?
I love the sense of community here. There are so many local families, small businesses, and beautiful spots to enjoy with kids!
Tell us about your business – name and services offered!
Long Island Latch is a private lactation consulting practice serving families across Long Island. I offer in-home visits, office visits, and virtual prenatal and postpartum lactation support. I also offer pumping support, bottle feeding guidance, weighted feeds, return-to-work planning, and ongoing breastfeeding support. I also accept many insurances!
What inspired you to start your business?
My passion for maternal-child health and breastfeeding support grew through both my nursing career and my own experience as a mother. I saw firsthand how overwhelming postpartum can feel and how much of a difference compassionate support makes. I wanted families to feel seen, educated, and supported in a more personal way.
What do you love about your business/favorite part of what you do?
My favorite part is helping mothers gain confidence. Whether it’s improving a painful latch, helping a baby gain weight, or simply reassuring a mom that she’s doing a great job, I love seeing families leave a visit feeling more empowered and less alone.
How has motherhood influenced your business journey?
Motherhood gave me a deeper understanding of how vulnerable and emotional the postpartum period can be. It helped shape the way I care for families, not just focusing on feeding, but also on supporting the mother as a whole person.
What makes your business unique?
I think what makes Long Island Latch unique is the combination of clinical experience and personalized support. I’m both an RN and IBCLC, so families receive evidence-based guidance while also feeling comfortable, heard, and cared for in a judgment-free environment. I also understand that every feeding journey looks different, and I support families in reaching their goals.
What advice would you give to another mom?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Motherhood was never meant to be done alone, and needing support does not mean you’re failing.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
Everything is a phase. The hard moments feel so big when you’re in them, but things are always changing and evolving.
Anything else you’d like to share!
I’m incredibly grateful to be trusted during such an important time in families’ lives. Supporting mothers and babies throughout Long Island has truly been one of the most rewarding experiences, and I’m excited to continue growing Long Island Latch and supporting our local community.
