What is your name? Introduce yourself!
Hi! My name is MaryKate Geraghty. I’m a mom of three, an LCSW, and the owner of two businesses that support mothers and families through some of the most emotional and transformative stages of parenthood.
How many kids do you have?
I have three young children who keep me very busy and inspired every day! Motherhood has truly shaped both who I am personally and professionally.
What is your favorite thing about the Sayville Patchogue Area?
I love the sense of community here. There’s something really special about the support among local moms and small businesses. It feels like people genuinely want to lift each other up, and I’m grateful to raise my family in an area that values connection, family, and community involvement.
Tell us about your business – name and services offered!
I own two businesses that both center around supporting mothers and families:
A Work of Heart LCSW PC is a maternal mental health therapy practice focused on pregnancy, postpartum, motherhood, anxiety, identity shifts, relationship stress, and the emotional challenges that can come with parenting. I provide compassionate therapy support for women navigating all stages of motherhood.
I also own Super Sleeper Sleep Consulting, where I help exhausted parents create healthy, realistic sleep foundations for their children through personalized sleep support and coaching. My approach focuses on supporting the entire family while recognizing that every child and parent is different.
What inspired you to start your business?
My own motherhood journey inspired both businesses in a very personal way. After experiencing birth trauma, a NICU stay, postpartum struggles, and the emotional weight that can come with early motherhood, I realized how many women silently carry anxiety, grief, overwhelm, guilt, and exhaustion while still trying to care for everyone else. Those experiences completely changed me and opened my eyes to how important support truly is for mothers.
I started Work of Heart: Therapy for Moms because I wanted women to have a safe place where they feel understood, supported, and never alone during pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood.
I truly believe women are the foundation of the family, and when you support a woman or mother, you are supporting an entire family. That belief is at the center of everything I do.
I also created Super Sleeper after experiencing firsthand how deeply sleep deprivation can affect a parent’s mental health, relationships, and overall wellbeing. I became passionate about helping families find more rest in a compassionate, realistic, and supportive way.
What do you love about your business/favorite part of what you do?
My favorite part is helping moms feel less alone. Whether it’s a therapy session where someone finally feels heard or a family finally getting rest after months of exhaustion, those moments are incredibly meaningful to me. I love creating support systems for moms who are constantly caring for everyone else.
How has motherhood influenced your business journey?
Motherhood completely changed my perspective on life and work. It taught me flexibility, resilience, empathy, and how important support truly is. Becoming a mom helped me better understand the emotional load women carry, and it made me passionate about creating businesses that genuinely help mothers feel cared for too.
What makes your business unique?
I think what makes my businesses unique is the combination of professional expertise and lived experience. I’m not only a therapist and sleep consultant — I’m also a mom who understands the realities of postpartum recovery, sleep deprivation, mom guilt, anxiety, and trying to balance it all. My approach is supportive, honest, compassionate, and realistic rather than “perfect.”
What advice would you give to another mom?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. So many moms feel pressure to do everything on their own, but needing support doesn’t make you weak — it makes you human. You deserve care too.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another mom?
“You can love motherhood and still struggle sometimes.” That reminder helped me release a lot of guilt and recognize that two things can be true at once — motherhood can be both beautiful and incredibly hard.
Anything else you’d like to share!
I’m incredibly passionate about supporting mothers in our community because I know how life-changing it can be when women feel seen, supported, and connected. Whether through therapy, sleep support, or simply honest conversations about motherhood, my goal is always to help families feel less overwhelmed and more empowered. I’m so grateful to be able to do this work within such a supportive local community.
