Where is your favorite place on Long Island?

My husband and I love Montauk. It is our happy place. Since 2020 we have voted to make it a yearly tradition to go there for the weekend and just relax, hangout on the beach, enjoy the food etc. We hope someday to own a home there to spend even more time there and include the whole family.

Tell us about your daughter.

Our daughter will be 2 in January and we are expecting our second baby, a boy in January as well. Our daughter is at such a fun age where she is just absorbing everything and learning so much so fast. It is such a joy to see her learn and grow, even if she is getting into the asserting her independence phase (loves the word no). We can’t wait to see how she is as a big sister in the upcoming months.

Why did you decide to launch your business?

In March of 2013 I was getting my Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling. I was also working as a nanny, practicing yoga and working at the studio. I was, like most women, juggling a lot. I have always been creative and enjoyed crafty hobbies and when I saw some headbands in a store I thought “I can make those” and off I went. I had no idea of course where it would lead, I just wanted to do it for fun. Not too long after I found myself with an Etsy shop selling to people who weren’t family or friends. I taught myself how to sew and transitioned to comfortable fabric headbands that would help me in my everyday life. With my schedule it was difficult to fully get ready and do my hair, therefore headbands helped me looking feel more put together. 2 years later I graduated with my degree and started working in the field, continuing my business on the side. It was fun to create and nice to have some extra money. It wasn’t until I completed my hours and received my license and took a job as a therapist that things started to change. More orders were coming in and I was unable to keep up with all the sewing. I had to enlist the help of friends and family to get out the spring orders in 2019. I knew then it was time to make a decision and the decision was easy. I could always be a therapist, it was time to try and take my business serious and run it full time. 3.5 years later and it was the best decision I ever made, well one of them. I am so lucky to be able to work for myself and have the flexibility, especially since having my daughter. It is certainly not easy, but I hope to show her that women can do amazing things.

What motivates you?

Being able to make money and support my family from a business I created myself is pretty amazing. Now knowing I have little eyes on me really motivates me to continue and do whatever it takes to support my family. Plus, it really helps to have such wonderful customers that support my business and love my products.

What is your favorite recipe?

Chicken Enchilada soup! So good, so easy! I highly recommend all of Ali’s recipes.
