Meet a Mom: Danielle of Mind Body Counseling | Sayville Patchogue Moms

Meet Danielle Poore, LMHC, local mom and owner of Mind Body Counseling

What do you love most about living in our area?

I love my community in Sayville. I am so fortunate to live in a place where people value connection. I love the events held in town, the beach access, and the network of families that pull together to make a really great place to raise a family

How many kids do you have and what are their ages?

I have two children, Billy (9) and Anna (6).

Tell us more about your family?

My husband, Bill has been a great support in encouraging my goals to open my private practice. He works in healthcare. He is also looking to grow and fulfill a career that is more meaningful to him. We have been each other’s biggest cheerleaders on this journey. We have built a beautiful life together – two children, our dog Rosie, 5 backyard chickens, and 2 hermit crabs later.

Why did you decide to launch your business?

Thinking back on my career path, I wanted to make an impact helping people and making a difference in the world. On the other hand, I have always had a “hustle” mentality and an entrepreneurial spirit. I never thought I could do both simultaneously. I have been working in the mental health field for about 15 years. I have seen first hand the great need for convenient mental health care that does not compromise quality. I wanted to create a practice that emphasized access, partnership, and quality of services. Mind Body Counseling does just that.

Tell us more about your business.

Mind Body Counseling offers concierge mental health services to our clients. Concierge therapy is a unique service that is only offered to a limited number of individuals at a time; this allows the therapist to work deeply with each person and provide better client care. We don’t use a “one size fits all” approach; our partnership will always reflect what you need in the moment. Therapists are extremely flexible and convenient. You will never waste precious time battling traffic or dealing with frustrating parking situations. We meet via teletherapy (i.e., secure video chat), allowing you to have therapy wherever you are. This allows you to have sessions at work during your lunch hour or at home while your baby is napping. We are in the process of growing the practice to include additional concierge services like virtual psychiatry services and nutrition consults – treating the whole person with a collaborative team approach.

What are some of your favorite things to do in our area?

We love being active in our community. Our family calls my husband and I “townies”. We appreciate our town in Sayville so much and don’t leave this bubble too often. We love dining in the area, shopping, and trying out the new spots in town. We enjoy attending all of the fun events held in town with the kiddos. We are also so appreciative of the accessibility to everything. We love to be able to ride our bicycles into town, to the local winery, or down to the Sayville Beach. We have the best of everything here.

What motivates you?

My kids! I overheard my son telling his friend about my business the other day. This meant so much to me – to be able to model for my kids that you can make your dreams a reality is the best gift. I am also very motivated by the work I do. I think it’s so important to do a job that lights a fire in you. I’m excited to go to work and thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to help people heal and live their best life.

What is the best mom advice you have received?

Practice letting go of Mom guilt. Self care is NOT selfish. We have more love to give when we prioritize ourselves! Moms have it tough – having to be everything to everyone. This is an unrealistic standard. The most successful people, delegate. It really takes a village to do all we do. We need to normalize delegating and prioritizing our own self care so that we can be the best versions of ourselves to the people we care most for.
