The Great Give Back, Coming to a Library Near You! | Sayville Patchogue Moms

 

 

Not only am I personally super passionate about giving back to the community but I feel like teaching our children about giving back is one of the greatest gifts we can give them! Our children look to us as they form their ideas about their place in this world and how to navigate within their community- the more we can model kindness, the better!

Here’s where the Great Give Back comes in:

 

The Great Give Back is a community service initiative created by the Suffolk County Public Library Directors Association and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, in conjunction with the Nassau Library System.

The mission of The Great Give Back is to provide a day of opportunities for the patrons of the Public Libraries of New York State to participate in meaningful, service-oriented experiences.

 

Our local libraries have a TON of good stuff going on this weekend to celebrate so you and the fam can spend some quality time together while doing something nice for others! Check out everything that is going on locally below by clicking on the individual library branches:

 

 

Sayville Public Library

Community Breakfast
Saturday, October 19th

For all ages
Stop in the Library for coffee and a continental breakfast and chat with some of the local civic and charitable organizations that make Sayville and West Sayville better for all of us. Learn what these organizations do for our community and find out details on how you can get involved.

Food Drive

The Library is collecting non-perishable food items to donate to the Sayville Food Pantry.

Pet Adoption Fair

Stop by and help us find these loving animals a forever-home. We’ll have shelter experts on hand to answer all your questions.

Volunteer @ Teen Central

For students in grades 6-12
Teens can participate in various community service projects that will be donated throughout Sayville.

Trap-Neuter-Release Workshop

For adults
Ryan Shea from the Shabby Tabby Cat Cafe will be here to show
how you can help control the feral cat population by participating in the trap-neuter-release programs with local shelters.

Halloween costume Drive
Monday, September 2nd – Saturday, October 19th

Donate “new” and “like-new” Halloween costumes. On October 19, 11am-3pm stop in Teen Central to “shop” for a Halloween costume to use this year.

Charity Red Carpet Selfies

Stop by our POP-UP sale to browse great books, movies & music for sale. All proceeds go to the Friends of the Sayville Library.

Kids Make a Difference!

For children birth through grade 5
Visit the Children’s Department to participate in the GGB by creating a variety of items that will be donated to local food pantries and nursing homes.

Connetquot Public Library

Birthday Wishes Long Island

For all ages
We will be collecting birthday wrapping paper, basketballs, footballs, super heroes, Paw Patrol items and nail polish sets for Birthday Wishes LI to provide parties for homeless children. Create a birthday card for the birthday child also.

Halloween Costume Drive

Come pick out a new-to-you costume for this year! All costumes distributed will be on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of 2 per family.

We are accepting new or gently used costumes (with a particular need for school-age sized costumes), from September 13 through October 18 at the Children’s Services Desk.

Create Cards for Soldiers

Show your appreciaton for our soldiers by writing and decorating cards that will be mailed to them.

Coat Drive

Bring your clean, gently-used winter coats for all ages to be donated to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless.

For teens
We will be making busy kits for the pediatrics unit for Stony Brook Hospital and collecting food and toiletries for the local food bank.
While walk-ins are accepted, registering first would be preferred.
